For me, photography is a window into my subjects’ lives and world. I use photography to capture a slice of life. My passion for the captured image is evident in my work and the reason why I have chosen to specialize in wedding photography, portraiture, and life events.

KIMBERLY CHAIT

Kim is an energetic artist at heart, which allows her to capture creative images that surpass typical wedding photography. She has a charismatic, photojournalistic style that is unobtrusive and sets you and your guests at ease. She acquired many of her documentary style techniques while studying filmmaking in San Francisco.  After attending film school San Francisco, she worked in New York City in the film industry. Following September 11th, 2001, she moved back to Vermont to be closer to her family. Kim used this as an opportunity to change directions with her passion for the visual arts. She decided to take on still photography professionally while obtaining a Masters In Education to enable her to teach high school art, specifically photography.

"As our friends around us all got married, wedding photography was making a connection with me. I started my business in still photography in 2005. I shot all of my early weddings in film, using my purist roots in cinema and storytelling to help develop my own style. I made the jump to digital early and now shoot almost exclusively in digital format. I'll pull out an old medium format camera if the occasion calls for it, but I've found I can really push myself in the digital realm."

Kim has four daughters: Violette, Saige, Olive, and Rose and now a step-daughter, Roxy Sue. They make wonderful subjects for her camera, and in addition to an artistic sensibility, they seem to have a bit of the shutter bug themselves. They love picking up the point and shoot cameras and creating a record of their point of view. In fact, Violette is off to college in the Fall of 2022 to pursue Photography for her own career path.

"Now, I live in Cambridge, at the base of Smugglers' Notch and Mansfield in Pleasant Valley. I'm enjoying life as a mom, snowboard instructor, artist, Jill of All Trades, problem solver, gardener, the list goes on. Of all things, photography has become my tool for expression that suits me best."

MICHAEL CHAIT

Born and raised on Chicago’s North Shore, Michael developed his love for photography at a young age through local fine arts programs. With one of the nation’s largest cities at his fingertips,  Mike fell in love with unique angles, lines, shadows, and shapes as viewed from higher vantage points on train platforms, rooftops, and parking garages. Through studying the subject at Columbia College in the bustling Chicago Loop, he realized the city just wasn’t the most conducive setting for him to work, and he took to Vermont for inspiration. Here, Mike was able to tune in to his passions for photography and the outdoors, ultimately taking on a marketing focus with one of Vermont’s largest mountain resorts where he met his best friend and wife, Kimberly.

“As soon as I began photographing weddings with Kim, it became abundantly clear to me that there was a different approach to be taken than merely documentary-style photography. Combining our love of good natural light with the use of off-camera flash, our sense of adventure with our love for the outdoors, and the joy we both feel when around the love shared by couples and their respective families, Kim and I are in our happy place when we can be together shooting weddings.”

As a team, Kim and Mike marry their talents and over 20 years of combined experience to form a unified front with a knack for communicating together through smiles and eyes. They can often be seen laughing.

“Sharing our lives together is Kim and my priority as a couple. Our combined family, through the challenges the kids all bring and the joys of their accomplishments, shows us there is life beyond the dream. When working together, we commit to supporting one another, to be the best we can be at every moments. The way we collaborate in all facets is nothing short of symbiotic. We are best friends— at work, at home, and all the spaces in between.”

OUR FAMILY

We love spending time together with our family, adventuring around Vermont. Nothing makes us happier in our free time than snowboarding together. Mountain life can be rugged, but only in ways that prepare us all for the challenges of life. We foster stewardship of our earth through responsible play in nature year-round. We enjoy time on our bikes, time on Lake Carmi, time in the mountains, and time making our house a home. When we have the rare opportunity for alone time, we can usually be found in the mountains, in the garden, or on the dancefloor— either at home or at our favorite live music venues. Nothing fills us with joy like some live Phish, live Dead, or sneakin’ a little sally in the backcountry woods of Smugglers’ Notch. Together, we find strength through love and kindness and we vow to share with our children those values, alongside compassion, understanding, empathy, and respect.
